“Cloud-based” accounting on the increase

The online web-based accounts software revolution is now here and Sage is looking over its shoulder!

The market place is becoming flooded with new online web-based accounts software packages, but which one should you choose? Xero, Intuit, Kashflow, E-conomic, Sage Online - the list goes on!

The major benefit of web-based accounts software is that it can be accessed anywhere in the world, by the authorised users. It can also bring great benefits in terms of improved invoicing processes, greater accuracy in recording bank transactions, and improved management results. It also enables accountants like Hale & Company LLP to access your accounting software without the need to transfer files and books from your office to ours. And when things like VAT rates change, the software is updated centrally.

It is possible to set up automatic bank feeds to download bank transactions directly into Xero and it even “learns” about previous transactions and can suggest postings based on previous experience.

Of course some software offers more functionality than others and following research we selected Xero, a New Zealand-based listed company which currently has over 100,000 users worldwide.

Xero software is accessible on most smartphones and tablet computers too, making it even easier to use.

The most commonly used option for small and medium-sized businesses starts at £19 + VAT per month for the Xero software itself.
